![]() ![]() While there are good comparisons for the RTS 20 series the Quadro RTX series (in which the recommendation is the Quadro for Solidworks), there isn't any information regarding the RTX 30 series and Solidworks. Besides which, on closer examination, I'm thinking MAYBE an Quadro RTX 4000/5000/6000 etc MIGHT be a better option. And as a result of a perfect storm of unfortunate events, they're now difficult to get hold of, and ridiculously expensive. I was initially looking at getting an RTX 3080 on release you probably all know what a sh** show that turned into. That's just not gonna cut the mustard! Especially not if I'm trying to run that in the background while performing other tasks (uni and IT work/coding, 3D printer buffering, and gaming. As an idea, a 1720 x 1440 ray-traced render that's a little over a minute long would take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to render. In addition, I'm finding more and more of the work I'm being requested to do involves rendering and animating, and the machine ain't handling that well at all. However, that's not my main issue at the moment.Ībout 70% of my machine runtime is taken up with 3d modelling in Solidworks (which was ok until recently, but now it's slowing waaaaay down). At some point I WILL need to bite the bullet and invest in a new rig. I DID put this machine together in 2014, and for the most part it's held it's age well. Here's where I'm at.My machine is starting to feel it's age, as running a number of memory hungry apps at once is causing the performance to take a serious hit. ![]() (You can tell when I built this machine, can't you?) Memory: 2 x Corsair 8GB DIMMS DDR3 SDRAM (Don't remember the model name) Older machine, desperately in need of upgrading, but let's stick a pin in that for the moment: Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Assassin's Creed (insert Roman numeral of choice), Doom, COD (various), and 3D modelling and rendering software, i.e. Budget (including currency): Let's imagine, hypothetically, that there isn't a limit gimme both options, economy and "WTF!!?!?" ![]()
